Young People Needed

Museum chiefs are urging young people to help them test drive the brilliant new displays, trails and activities planned for the National Civil War Centre in Newark when it opens in Spring 2015.

The £5.4m project by Newark and Sherwood District Council will create the first centre of its kind anywhere in the UK, backed by £3.5m from the Heritage Lottery Fund.

Carol King, Learning and Participation Team Leader, explained: “Young people are a crucial audience for us so we are issuing this plea for volunteers as today is ‘Kids in Museums Takeover Day’. This fabulous national initiative encourages heritage sites to let young people take charge and next year we plan to do just that when we are fully open. But at this stage it’s really important we capture their views on how we plan to tell the story. The British Civil Wars were such a huge event that affected everyone. Their feedback will be like gold dust.”

Volunteers aged between 8 and 19 years old will be treated to a VIP visit to the Old Magnus Building and be able to go behind the scenes as the final elements of the project come together.
