Wales to Wellow

Finally, after being postponed last year a group of 40 friends embarked on their fourth cycle in aid of The Breast Institute. Their biggest three-day challenge yet cycling over 200 miles from Bangor in Wales back home to Wellow, Nottinghamshire! The purpose to raise money for equipment at the Nottingham Breast Institute.

With 35 riders and a strong support team, their first day began with 72miles to Chester.

Day 2 from Chester to Uttoxeter was certainly a challenging day with lots of hills! 76 miles.

Day 3 saw them cycle from Uttoxeter to Wellow 66 miles.

As ever there were adventures, incidents, and stories to tell at the end of each day.

Organisers Steven and Paula Routledge and Tim and Rachel Hinchley found this challenge the hardest, not only because covid restrictions were still in place but also planning a safe bespoke route to get all riders back to Wellow.

With some amazing sponsorship so far, this challenge has raised approx. £40,000 so far.

Now with covid restrictions lifted many of our riders will be holding various fundraising events leading up to the fourth Strawberry Ball, which will be held on 12th March at Newark Showground.

Over the years this group of friends has enabled the hospital to purchase a mobile breast screening unit in situ today in the Newark Hospital Carpark. A state-of-the-art Mammographic scanner and a substantial amount has gone into research to help find a cure for this cruel disease.
