Village Venture Awards

Extracts from The Bramley 30 Years Ago October 18, 2012

The villages of Blidworth and Normanton on Soar tied for first place in the Nottinghamshire Village Venture competition final and will both go forward to the National Finals later this year.

The competition was organised by the Community Council for Nottinghamshire and generously sponsored by Shell UK. The aim of the competition was to encourage and support voluntary projects which would benefit the local community. This was the third such competition in the county which is held every two years.

The finalists were Normanton on Soar – with their building of a village pavilion; Blyth, who undertook a tree felling and replanting scheme; Headon with their well dressing festival; Tuxford voluntary car scheme; Blidworth Community Centre; Farnsfield village cinema and Thurgarton Village Newsletter.

The final results were Normanton on Soar and Blidworth joint winners; Thurgarton third prize and Blyth, Headon, Tuxford and Farnsfield runners up.

Normanton and Blidworth were each awarded a cheque for £60 and received the silver and oak Village Venture competition trophy for six months each.
