Vikings invade the Burgage!

Join The Vikings at the annual funday on Saturday 23rd June, 12noon to 4pm on the Burgage in Southwell.

The Vikings are a re-enactment society dedicated to recreating the life and times of the Dark Age period, not only the battles and skirmishes of the period, but also the dress, crafts and every-day life of the different peoples of that time. Founded in 1971, The Vikings are the oldest and largest Dark Age re-enactment society in the UK and probably the world!
As well as meeting The Vikings at the funday you will also find community stalls, fun children’s activities, maypole dancing, have a go archery, storytelling and an inflatable assault course and slide!

There’ll be music to enjoy from local brass ensemble, Essentially Brass with lots of yummy cakes, ice creams, drinks and The Village Kitchen providing burgers and hot dogs! So come along to the Burgage and join in the fun – we’re looking forward to seeing you there!

Also look out for the Southwell Lions’ Duck Pluck again this year, net proceeds will go to Southwell City Football Club’s appeal to upgrade its facilities. You can buy your Duck numbers from the football club, at the Lions’ stall on the Market Square on 16th June, or at the Funday itself on 23rd June. The Lions will have their human fruit machine working and ‘Splat the Rat’ for added amusement. The numbers of the winning Ducks will be plucked from the pools by members of the public from 3.30pm in the afternoon.  Do have a go: you could win the top prize of £100 for just £1!

This is a free event organised and supported by Southwell Town Council. Any enquiries please contact Southwell Events and Tourism Co-ordinator, Honor Dunkley on 01636 819175 or email:eventsandtourism@southwell-tc.gov.uk
