As a result of the Headship of Upton School becoming vacant, the Education Dept. has had to review the future of the school. A series of meetings was held on 9th May at the request of the County Education Committee chaired by Cllr. G Foster with Canon R.S.C. Bailey (Diocesan Director of Education), Mrs Marshall (Assistant Director of Education) and Mr Fairy (Area Education Officer) also present.
After discussions with staff and governors over 40 parents, past parents and future parents of Upton Children were given ample opportunity to make their views known. The visitors were left in no doubt as to the wholehearted support the school enjoys and the high reputation of its staff in the area.
At the end of the meeting, Cllr. Foster complimented all concerned with the way the meeting had run and with the amount of positive information presented. He undertook to make know to the school the details of his subsequent report to the Education Committee.
Both governors and parents meetings voted unanimously in favour of resolutions asking the Education committee to continue to maintain Upton school.
