The Southwell skatepark renovation team is back on track

It’s been quite a year since the Come and Skate Day held early in 2020, which was attended by about 130 people. Since then, there have been much-needed repairs to some of the ramps. But now the focus is firmly on forming an enthusiastic user group, which can help inform design ideas for Southwell’s skatepark and the area around it.

Karen Roberts, Vice-chair of the Town Council’s Town Environment Committee, told the Bramley: “Nottinghamshire has some inspirational skaters like Alex Hallford who is set to represent GB at the Tokyo Olympics. Our skatepark is over 25 years old but it is still enjoyed by a wide range of people both young and older.

“The Town Council has allocated £30,000 for the development of the area. And following the successful work at Squires’ Field play area, the Friends of Southwell Parks hope to raise another £100,000 towards a new concrete structure. But it’s important that we know what local people want.”

Karen continued: “How would you like to see the area to develop… should it be incorporated into a foraging trail, maybe an outdoor gum or climbing wall or is it all about wheels? “
