The Heritage Hop!

On Saturday 8th September come and do the Heritage Hop! Drop in to different venues around the town as part of the Heritage Open Day events for Southwell.

At Higgons Mead (the old Minster School site on Church Street), learn all about the recent archaeological dig and finds at Vicars Court and take a guided walk around the Roman site. Join in with family activities such as mosaic making, face painting and the bouncy castle. See the model of the original House of Correction and then visit the new Bechers Court on The Burgage to see how it reflects the original 19th century buildings. When you reach The Burgage come and take a look round the Old Courthouse and view the original cells. Maps and timings will be available nearer the time.

Visit Southwell Minster for guided tours and tower tours. Drop into the library to view a display of old Southwell photographs. On your way around the town, be sure to enjoy the independent shops and eateries in Southwell.

On Saturday 15th September, The Workhouse has free entry. On Sunday 16th September Brackenhurst Hall and gardens are open from 10am – 3pm with guided tours and a pictorial display. The garden in Easthorpe containing the original Bramley Apple tree will be available to the public on this day.

So join in with England’s largest festival of history and culture, Heritage Open Days – it’s your chance to find out more of the hidden heritage around our beautiful town and celebrate our heritage, community and history! www.visitsouthwell.com #southwellheritage
