A recent editorial piece in The Bramley promoted the Nottingham Philharmonic Orchestra’s 40th Anniversary Concert which took place in April in the Royal Concert Hall, Nottingham.

If you weren’t part of the audience, you may not be aware that this local orchestra is acclaimed as one of the best non-professional orchestras in the country. It regularly performs with world class soloists and has been broadcast on BBC Radio 3. One critic described the NPO as the “jewel in Nottinghamshire’s crown.”

Luckily you don’t have to travel far to hear this top orchestra as we will be performing in Southwell Minster on 12th July when the programme includes overtures by Brahms and Wagner, Dvorak’s well-loved Cello Concerto and Elgar’s Enigma Variations.

Every season there’s something for everyone, from the Family Concert (“no one stages a family concert quite like the NPO”) to big Classical, Romantic and 20th Century orchestral greats (“the Nottingham Philharmonic under Mark Heron seems to reach greater heights of orchestral virtuosity”; “the NPO gave such a fizzing, virtuosic account of Bernstein’s Symphonic Dances from West Side Story, that the audience burst into applause before the end.”)

We have a regular audience of loyal followers, but as we celebrate our 40th Anniversary year, we’d love to share the excitement of our performances with a wider audience. Tickets for the 12th July concert are available from the Cathedral Shop in Southwell (01636 812933).
