Are you taking part in Southwell Methodist Church’s SuperSpud Competition? Organisers supplied competitors with five seed potatoes back in March. Despite the current restrictions we have not given up on the Challenge, although the planned 4th July face to face gathering is now postponed – we are making plans for after Lockdown!
We would love you to continue tending your plants. When they are ready to harvest, you will need to weigh and photograph the whole crop from your 5 seed potatoes and weigh and photograph your largest potato. Your photograph should be of the potatoes on the scales with the weight clearly visible and your name and contact email alongside it – see the example (this keeps all of the information we need in the same place, on the photograph).
Decide which is the oddest shaped potato out of your crop and photograph that too. These should be sent to Rev.d Peter Hibberts by email (peter.hibberts@methodist.org.uk) by the July 4th deadline.
Once we are all able to mix freely we will hold our Superspud Celebration Day at which point we will display all the photographic entries and especially the winners! (You could store your largest and oddest shaped potatoes as long as they are still fit to exhibit but don’t waste them!) We will still be organising Children’s activities, sharing food and having a fun Beetle Drive. Further details nearer the time!
Please also send us your photographs showing the progress of your potatoes which we will post on our FaceBook Page (@SouthwellMethodist) and Website: www.southwellmethodist.org.uk
Please note that you should only send photographs that you are happy to be used in this way.
Thanks for taking part. Hope you have a good potato harvest! Stay safe and keep well.
