Following the partnership agreement between Nottingham and Southwell rugby clubs last year, a very successful summer rugby camp was held at Southwell’s Pentelowes ground during the August holidays and, for 2017, two such camps are being scheduled.
The camps are run over five days by qualified community rugby coaches from Nottingham and are designed to cater for both boys and girls of all levels of ability and experience with the emphasis on both teaching and improving basic skills in a fun-filled and enjoyable way.
A tag rugby camp will take place for 5 – 8 year olds, which will involve safe and fun mini kicking games, a passing and catching clinic, learning basic skills and also trying other sports with a rugby twist.
The contact sessions for the 9 – 12 year olds will feature competitive, safe and fun games, kicking sessions, a passing and catching through attack clinic, a complete skills clinic and a focus on performance tackling.
Each age range will have a lead coach delivering the sessions who will be supported by a selection of other guest coaches throughout the week, including appearances from the ‘Green and Whites’ first team squad.
The first camp is being run from 3 – 7 April and the second will be mounted in the latter part of August. The daily sessions take place from 9.00am – 3.30pm and the cost of the camp is £20 per day or £80 for the full week.
Places are limited therefore early booking is recommended and places can be secured by calling the Nottingham Rugby club office on 0115 9070070.
Southwell RUFC is located on Park Lane, Southwell NG25 0QN.
