Stoppards opens Southwell Butchers
John and Lesley Stoppard look forward to welcoming you to their new butchers shop at 1 Market Place Southwell.
As local family butchers since 1870, with the first shop in South Normanton, John and Lesley have over 40 years of butchery experience, owning 5 shops over the years, with their last one in Farnsfield.
Formerly John Pitchford’s Butchers, the shop has had a full refit and has recently been awarded a 5 star rating by the Food Standards Agency. With a brand new bakehouse in the buildings to the rear of the property, it is from here that Lesley and the team make their delicious home made pies and sausage rolls as well as hams and other cooked meats. Stoppards sausage rolls had somewhat of a reputation in Farnsfield selling over 800 a week!
All meat is locally sourced and hand picked wherever possible, often direct from farmers, but if not bought live from Newark Cattle Market by John himself. The pork is free range from Wellow, the chickens free range from T.Soanes & Son and the lamb is from Papplewick. All the beef is hung for 21 days, and displayed in our dry ager fridge.
John was lucky enough to secure a Show Beast from Mick Hardy at the recent Southwell Ploughing Match, with the meat available in store now.
The shop also stocks a great selection of jams, pickles, sauces, olives and antipasti.
“We are really excited about our new location in Southwell,” said John. “My son Tom and daughter Rebecca will also be getting more involved in the business going forward and we are also delighted that Ray Pitchford is continuing as part of the team. Having worked for John for over 33 years he is a familiar face in the Southwell Butchery scene.”
Look out for the Bramley Apple specials this week in the lead up to the town’s annual Festival and Christmas free range turkeys will be available from November.
Located at 1 Market Place, Southwell, Stoppards is open Monday-Friday 8am-4pm and Saturday 7.30am-1pm. Come in and see us for good quality, reasonably priced meat and great service.
