Southwell’s Environment Week of Action!

Southwell’s Environment Week of Action!

News March 4, 2020

On Saturday 21st March, Southwell Town Council will be launching its Environment Week.

There will be a Saturday Market on the 21st promoting environmental awareness. As well as our weekly market stalls, there will be stalls supporting nature and wildlife, such as The Wildlife Trust and the RSPB. We would like to encourage groups within the town to organise an event or activity to do that week. For example, the Lions and Green Southwell, aided by the Scouts, are hoping to plant a replacement hedge on the Little Burgage on the 22nd, with help from Nottinghamshire’s Wildlife Trust. However, if you want to do something individually or as a collection of neighbours from one road, you could wash your street sign or even make a bug house to be secreted away within one of Southwell’s green spaces.

On Wednesday 25th March, as part of Newark and Sherwood District Council’s greener campaign, there will be a Day of Action within the Town. The District Council will be working throughout the Town to plant trees, install bug hotels, do a litter pick on the War Memorial Park and undertake a street cleansing throughout Southwell (it would help if cars could be parked off the main roads during the day). There will also be an emphasis on not leaving cars idling whilst picking children up from school and some new litter bins will be installed.

This is a great opportunity to put the environment at the heart of our community and have some fun!
