Southwell Women’s Cricket celebrate winning streak

PRESENTLY, Southwell Cricket Club’s women’s softball side are top of Midlands North Central Division 1, having won their six opening fixtures.

They started the campaign convincingly against Caythorpe, with Verity “V” Boal top scoring with 15, and then overcame Kimberley Institute, with Claire Stevenson and Claire Lightbody taking two wickets each.

Two immensely impressive victories against Farndon and Eastwood Town saw great batting performances from Boal again (24 from 15 balls v Farndon), Sune Du Toit (38 from 14 v Farndon) and Jess Jackson (36 from 18 v Eastwood). Jess is also the top bowler in the division at present, with her figures including 3 wickets for 8 runs v Eastwood.

Two important wickets from Sally Davies helped the team defeat West Bridgfordians, before everyone held their nerve superbly in a compelling finish, defeating Wollaton by 3 runs thanks to a strong opening partnership between Du Toit and club captain Fiona Prentice, and 22 runs from Jess Jackson.

The club caters for all abilities with many friendly matches and fun festival dates coming up. Although there is a commitment to training there is loads of enjoyment and laughter.

The ladies game involves teams of 8 players and comprises 16 overs a side, with batters working in pairs, each pair batting for 4 overs.

Training takes place in Friday evenings at Top Ground, Brackenhurst Campus and the club is always keen to hear from any prospective new members.
