Southwell Tennis Club receives Notts LTA Award
SATURDAY 31st January 2026 was a busy day for Chris Gilliat.
A rare sighting of the sun made for an enjoyable second mixed team match at Sutton Bonington. After a confusing journey to the club (due to some work by Network Rail) we were rewarded with good tennis and very tasty tea and cake at the end of play.
After returning home to Southwell Chris was promptly out again with team member Ros Rees to attend the Notts LTA awards evening at Nottingham High School.
Notts LTA annually recognises the contributions of clubs, volunteers, coaches, and teams. In Summer 2025, the Southwell mixed second team achieved first place in their division, suffering only one loss and finishing at the top with 10 points. Their closest rivals secured just 6 points!
The team will move up a division for this summer and are looking forward to the challenge. The accompanying photograph features Chris receiving the award for this accomplishment alongside Jason Kilkie, the club coach.
We are always looking for team players, so if you are interested in playing in a ladies’, men’s or mixed tennis team have a look at our website and come and join us. www.clubspark.lta.org.uk/SouthwellLawnTennisClub
