24 eager recruits from Southwell Eagle & Falcon Packs recently joined Robin Hood’s band of Merrie Volunteers Leaders to become his Outlaws for a weekend in Walesby, in the heart of Sherwood Forest!
They tracked down the Sheriff of Nottingham’s hoard of gold and gems, honed their archery skills, overcame their fear of the dark in the Cave Maze, became proficient with sling shots and learnt how to cook emergency rations.
On Saturday evening the Merrie Volunteers presented their dramatic reenactment of Robin’s struggle with the Sheriff of Nottingham. Meanwhile Scouts have been cooking paella and counting tadpoles. As well as tadpoles, they were challenged to find and remember a natural object for every letter of the alphabet.
They have also been camping at Hoveringham, and older Scouts completed their Expedition Challenge by hiking to and from the campsite. There are currently a few places available in Cubs please email the Scout Group on falconcubscoutpack@gmail. com or visit www.south wellscouts.co.uk to fill in an enquiry form and join the waiting lists for Squirrels, Beavers and Scouts.
Southwell Scouts would love to have more adults helping to provide an exciting programme of ‘everyday adventures’ for young people – particularly with our growing Explorer unit and one of our Beaver colonies – please contact the Group via our website if you could help.
The Trustee Board have been hard at work upgrading the Scout Headquarters to meet current requirements for making it accessible for everyone, and to ensure that fire safety standards are up to date.
