Mud, mud, glorious mud would have been the ditty going through 16 SRC members minds when they were competing in the Belvoir Challenge. 11 of those did the 26 mile course, the rest did 15 miles. Well done to Julie Cheesman one of SRC’s longest serving members.

Heidi Harris carried the flag for the ladies in the National Cross Country Championship in Woolaton Park. Jim Semmelroth and Martin Harrigan were first home for the men with Simon Willington and Wayne Wilmot bringing up the rear.

Why would anyone want to run in the dark, unless there are street lights? The start of the High Peak marathon is 11pm, yes pm. Phil Sturgeon, Jim Semmelroth, Richard Andrews and Paul Orton were in the team called Wig – bankers. All was going well until Richard found himself chest high in a bog needing to be pulled out. That explains why you have to be in teams. They completed the course in just over 12 hours.

SRC did very well in the Notts County Fell Championships with Paul Butcher taking a gold medal and Jane Matthews a silver. The men’s team took the gold team medal as well.

17 SRC runners took part in the Ashby 20. Mark Edmonson-Jones finished in 2.07. Mark also ran the Sleaford ½ marathon with his wife Angela in preparation for their attempt at London. Wayne Wilmot and Michelle Hall ran the Newtons Fraction ½ marathon. www.southwellrunningclub.org.uk
