For many runners the event to run in September is the Robin Hood ½ or full marathon.

Three runners were brave enough to run the full marathon; James Corlett, Keith Underwood and Julie Stafford. 15 ran the ½ marathon. Bruce Danby, despite his advancing years, still managed to clock an impressive time of 1.33. Heidi Harris was the first lady home with another impressive time of 1.39.

Caroline Loom is on a ½ marathon roll. She has run 4 in 6 weeks. Her tally included the Worksop ½, a veritable tableau of autumn splendour in Clumber Park. I remember running this race when the roads were thick with ice, this year the weather was tropical, global warming does have some advantages (only kidding). 11 other runners completed the course with Mark Edmondson-Jones coming first home and Jules Eames following closely behind.

Congratulations to Paul Butcher who has been selected to represent England in the UK Master Cross Country at Woolaton Park.

Peter Gault went to my favourite European city, Berlin, to run a marathon. This course is fast and the world record was broken by Kenya’s Dennis Kimetto who finished in 2 2 57, knocking 36 seconds off the previous world record. To do this he ran 26.2 miles at a speed of about 4.7 miles an hour, a truly superhuman feat. If you fancy getting faster come and join the club www.southwellrunningclub.org.uk
