Southwell Minster hosts Fairtrade Big Brew

SOUTHWELL Minster reaffirmed its commitment to Fairtrade by hosting a successful Fairtrade Big Brew event on Sunday 2nd February following the morning’s Patronal Festival. The gathering brought the community together to raise awareness of Fairtrade principles while enjoying ethically sourced refreshments.

Attendees were treated to a selection of Fairtrade coffee, tea, and homemade cakes and biscuits, lovingly baked by volunteers using Fairtrade ingredients. A variety of Fairtrade wines was also available, contributing to the warm and welcoming atmosphere. Donations received during the event have been forwarded to the Fairtrade Foundation to support its ongoing initiatives and campaigns.

A key feature of the event was a presentation board created by students from the Minster School, showcasing entries from the recent Fairtrade birthday card competition. The competition celebrated the 30th anniversary of the Fairtrade Foundation, with students designing creative and thoughtful cards to mark the milestone.

In addition, the Southwell Co-op generously contributed a range of Fairtrade products for display, further highlighting the importance of ethical consumer choices. Visitors also had the chance to engage with an informative exhibition addressing the impact of climate change on the global food supply chain, reinforcing the vital role of Fairtrade in supporting sustainable farming practices.

The Fairtrade Big Brew event successfully combined community spirit with a meaningful cause, demonstrating Southwell Minsters dedication to ethical trade and global sustainability.
