This year’s Lantern Walk will take place on Saturday 13th December, 5pm. Please assemble outside Southwell Minster.
Join Southwell Town Council in coming together with friends and family for this delightful community walk with lanterns, lights and plenty of seasonal atmosphere!
The theme this year is ‘Water and Waves’ inspired by the Christmas carol ‘I saw Three Ships Come Sailing In, On Christmas Day, On Christmas Day’. Three boats will lead the parade and lanterns in the shape of boats, fish, jellyfish, whales, seaside lanterns, wellies, seagulls, starfish, buoyancy rings, anchors, ships wheels and lighthouses will hopefully follow along the route to The Minster School.
There’ll be willow lantern workshops or why not have fun making one of your own at home – we’d love to see your creations of any shape or size!
Willow lantern workshops run by a professional artist will be held on Saturday 6th December at The Old Courthouse, for ages 5 to 105, £5 per lantern, booking essential. Workshops 10am-12.30pm or 1pm-3.30pm. To book tel 01636 819038 or email info@visitsouthwell.com
A mini lantern workshop will be held by Southwell Library for children aged 3–8 years, 10am–12noon on Saturday 13th December, £1 per lantern, booking essential (01636 812148).
Southwell Town Council is working in partnership with The Minster School – pupils will create a lantern and lights display along the route of the lantern parade. We’re looking forward to Christmas music from Minster School pupils along with tasty treats at the end of the walk.
