Lions Club members are now embarking on a busy programme of help to the local community in the festive period leading up to Christmas.

On Saturday 21st November assistance was given, along with other clubs and organisations in the town, in providing transport for Jubillee Club members to the Old Tyme Music Hall by the Newark Amateur Dramatic Society.

On 5th and 12th December members will be on duty outside the Co-Op store in King Street, collecting tins and toys for distribution to the less fortunate at Christmas.  Also on the 12th youngsters from Caudwell House Children’s Home are being taken to the pantomime.Carol Singing by torchlight is being undertaken by members and their wives, but so as not to clash with the annual Round Table event this is being restricted to surrounding villages.

This pre-Christmas programme will be rounded off by a social evening at the Admiral Rodney on Tuesday 22nd December.

At this, their first Christmas, Lions President David Wragg and all members wish a happy and peaceful Christmas to the residents of Southwell and District and trust that their service to the community will continue with ever increasing momentum in 1982.
