Southwell City Swifts U9s double champions

SOUTHWELL City Swifts have had a brilliant season. They recently won the league and to top it all off, they won a thrilling Cup Final against a very tough opponent.

The Final was held at Clifton in Nottingham on a gorgeous sunny morning and with a perfect pitch, it was the ideal conditions for a highly competitive game.

Beeston, the other finalists dominated the early play, but the Swifts worked hard and defended brilliantly. The Swifts finally made the breakthrough after 18 minutes and they then added a second with the very last kick of the first half.

Beeston came out strong again in the early stages of the second half to pull it back to 2-1, but the Swifts then dominated the remaining of the second half adding 3 more great goals to make it 5-1 to win the Cup. Aston Storey got an amazing hat trick with Huey Grimsey and Henry Beardsley getting the other two goals.

The Swifts are now looking forward to a presentation for winning the league which will be held at the Royal Concert Hall in Nottingham on the 24th June. Head Coach Peter Beardsley said: “We’re all so proud of the boys, each one has improved so much in the last eight months and they’ve really gelled together as a team. Every boy played their socks off throughout the season enabling us to go 17 games unbeaten and winning the double too.”
