Southwell City Football Club has revealed an ambitious plan to upgrade and improve facilities for football in the town and is looking for sponsors to help fund the ambitious three year project.
The FA Charter Standard football club was established in 1893 and celebrates its 125th Anniversary this year. It is the third largest football club in Nottinghamshire. It currently has 35 teams – 4 Senior, 2 Veterans, 22 Boys and 7 Girls. Over 400 players, aged 5 to 50 years, currently play for the club and it has over 50 FA qualified coaches.
The club is planning to improve all of its football pitch areas around the town as well as major upgrades to clubhouse facilities at both the Memorial Ground and Brinkley. The phased, three year plan would see the majority of junior football moving to the Memorial Ground. This would allow the development of community facilities better suited to parents and children, with greater income generation potential for the club.
All senior football would move to Brinkley, with the development of a quality playing pitch and facilities that could be used by the club’s senior Ladies and Mens teams as well as older junior teams.
The project has been costed at just under £300,000 and will take place in three phases with completion set for the end of the 2019/20 season.
The club hopes to finance the project in a variety of ways, including a new lottery. As well as making use of available FA funding, the club is also asking local businesses for their support. A brochure outlining corporate sponsorship opportunities will be available shortly.
Fundraising events will be planned throughout the year. Look out for our World Cup Fun Tournament on 16th and 17th June with lots of activities including the chance for the players to have their picture taken with the (almost) real World Cup!
Vice Chair John Cunningham said: “Our goal is to provide opportunities for local people to play, coach and watch football enjoyably and safely in the best environment we can offer. We hope that we can engage with local businesses to make our vision a reality so that we can provide facilities that will benefit the whole of the town of Southwell.”
And don’t forget to join us for the biggest Southwell City Presentation Day yet on Saturday 19th May, 11am to 4pm, at the Memorial Ground, Southwell with lots of fun for all. Everybody welcome.
