Southwell City Girls aiming High

Southwell City are fortunate to have an ambassador for girls football in Ken Brown. He has developed six girls teams that play in the Notts Girls & Ladies League.

Once Ken has developed a team he hands them over to FA trained coaches and managers who volunteer to run the teams. Ken currently runs a growing Under 9 team.

The girls Under 10 and Under 12 Southwell City teams recently enjoyed attending a Girls Football Festival hosted by the Notts FA at the Nottingham Trent University Clifton Campus. The girls were able to take part in a referee taster session along with a chance to test their reaction times against a machine. They also had the opportunity to calculate the speed they were able to kick the ball into a net. Katie in the under 12 team recorded an impressive 48.5mph.
The under 13 girls have recently become Division 2 champions after holding West Bridgford, their fellow title contenders, to a hard fought draw. Having only started playing the new format of 9-a-side this season this is a great achievement for the girls.

In the Plate competition the under 10 girls did well to reach the semi final in their first competitive competition and the under 11 girls were narrowly beaten in their semi final. The under 15s continue to carry the flag for Southwell City and they will play their semi final on the 6th April.
