Southwell Bowls Club annual competition

After consultation with Bowls England, we were able to go ahead on July 4th with our annual sponsored competition, the DJ Hall Open Trips.

With strict rules, and much handwash and sanitiser in place, the only thing that could try and spoil the day was the weather. Leading up to the day, we were not hopeful, however, we were ultimately downgraded from thunderstorms to short showers and warm sunshine and in fact, it could not have been better, the sun shone nearly all day.
Bowls had been one of the first competitive games to open up through the easing of lockdown, so by now everybody was familiar with the new etiquette on and off the green and we were able to enjoy a full day of competitive bowling within the boundaries of Covid restrictions.

At the end of the day the winners were from Mansfield Gas Bowls Club and we hope they and everyone else who took part will return next year to compete for the title. It was a great day, and the green played magnificently, for which we thank all our groundsmen and ladies who work hard all year to maintain the condition. A mention also for the people in the kitchen who produced countless bacon butties and hot dogs.

If you would like to come and have a go, by all means get in touch, initially through our resident coach Bob Pitcher who will guide you through the basics – he is a regular at the green on Monday afternoons or can be contacted on 01636 813471.

Stay safe all. Ali Davies
