Scouts Summer Camp

Scouts and Explorers spent a week in August at Waddow Hall near Clitheroe. This beautiful campsite, run by Guiding UK, situated in rolling countryside has stunning views over the Pendle Hills.

As part of the famous Camp Cooking Competition, everyone was challenged to include something ‘witchy’ in their menus due to the notoriety of the local area. Most meals included something of a green goo nature!

On the site itself, there was the usual Summer mixture of sun, wind and rain to keep the young people on their toes. By the end of the week, awards could be made for cooking, camp craft and creativity. A whole range of special mentions were made including a Best Onesie for Aidan (it’s very hard to walk up for breakfast in frogfeet!), Bravest Showerer to Will (he tackled the Explorers’ outdoor shower!), Mr Chef for Alex (you will not find better scrambled eggs anywhere!), Sawing Rambo for Michael (he’s the man to prepare your firewood!) and Little Mermaid for Eloise (for her prowess with a canoe paddle!).

The week was topped off with a visit to Blackpool Pleasure Beach.

Every section is now running its Autumn programme with a whole host of exciting activities for our young people: Cubs camping and enjoying wood fires, Scouts taking part in hikes around Southwell, Beavers preparing for Remembrance Day and explorers working on their Duke of Edinburgh awards.

All work with young people depends on adult leadership! We welcome anyone interested in developing weekly meetings or one of the roles that support the leaders. After many years of loyal service Lorraine Felstead has stepped down from the post of Group Secretary. We celebrate all that she has done behind the scenes. Now, there’s a vacant post! Any offers?
