CONGRATULATIONS to local couple Paddy and Jacquie Whur (pictured) who have completed three amazing challenges in aid of Beaumond House Hospice raising over £9,000 so far.
Paddy, Captain at Norwood Park Golf Club along with wife Jacquie, who is Vice Captain decided to raise funds for the Hospice with a series of three treks each in turn getting harder and more extreme.
This summer they completed not only the Yorkshire three peaks challenge – Whernside, Ingleborough and Pen-y-Ghent but also took on the national three peaks climbing Snowdon, Ben Nevis and Scarfell. This was all training for the greatest challenge tackling Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania which they climbed last month.
Paddy reports: “After six days we got to base camp and set off at midnight reaching the summit at dawn. Brutal climb. Jacquie battled through altitude sickness. It’s just over a year ago I suggested our three adventures together for Norwood Park’s Captain’s charities. I got an initial lukewarm response but she has since been with me all the way and I am immensely proud of her.”
Paddy has been a fundraising hero in his captaincy at Norwood Park Golf Club – including the treks he has raised over £22,000 split between Beaumond House and Lincs & Notts Air Ambulance.
