Despite a near fatal cycling accident three years ago – a head-on collision with a car that resulted in a severed femoral artery and shattered leg – Andy Swain still has an unwavering passion for all things ‘bike’.
Andy recently set up his own small business, Rode Cycles; fixing, building and refurbishing cycles from his fully equipped home workshop. “There are a number of good cycling shops in the Nottingham area but, in my experience, they offer differing levels of service and expertise when it comes to bike maintenance.” explained Andy.
“Despite years of maintaining and refurbishing my own bikes, what I wanted to do was to train-up properly, gain the recognised professional qualifications, and put customer service and satisfaction at the centre of what I do. I definitely seem to have hit a receptive vein here in Southwell; as well as being a past-time growing in popularity, due to the ever increasing quality of road and mountain bikes, and the investment they represent, people understand the importance of keeping them properly maintained as this obviously increases the efficiency and longevity of the machine.”
Competitively priced servicing is the mainstay of the work Andy is asked to do, but there is also a high demand for more tricky problems such as wheel truing and building, suspension trouble-shooting and hydraulic brake servicing (he’s happy to fix punctures too!). In addition to the upkeep of modern machines, Andy is also passionate about vintage road bikes and always has a number of restoration projects on the go.
To fit in with people’s hectic lives, Andy also offers a pick-up and drop off service. To find out more please contact Andy via email: andy@rodecyles.com or call 07772 299824 and leave a message to organise an ‘out of hours’ pick-up and consultation to suit you.
