RODE Cycles the Southwell based cycle repair and servicing company is planning to branch out offering a service organising and supporting cycle tours in the New Year.
Having been involved in a number of cycling trips with various clubs he’s ridden with, Andy Swain, Rode Cycles’ owner manager, has recognised this need in the market. “I know from first hand experience how important it is to have a support vehicle available during a long ride when you’re travelling in a sizable group. Although most cyclists can carry enough equipment to be fairly self sufficient, on longer, multi-day rides where fatigue becomes more of an issue, its much more comforting for the riders to know that help is at hand, should anything happen. Helping to transport bikes and equipment and taking care of all the bags and baggage needed for overnight stays is also, obviously, a great advantage.” commented Andy. “I’ve been on multi-day rides where accidents have occurred requiring hospitalisation and I’ve even known a rider break his frame on day one, requiring transport to the nearest bike shop for some serious credit card hammering!”
Rode cycles have the capability to transport bikes and riders with all of their kit. They can also help with the route planning and accommodation. “A typical trip would involve the organisation and transportation of all equipment to the start point, pre – ride safety checks for all bikes and a post ride clean and check daily. “During each day’s ride, I’ll organise designated rest stops and food as required.” Continued Andy, who’s a trained first aider as well as a fully qualified mechan- ic. “Having support ‘on-board’ makes a trip much more enjoyable for those taking part, as all of the logistics are taken care of and if anyone gets in to trouble, they can be safe in the knowledge that help will be quickly on its way.
