Red Nose Day Collections

March 10th saw an outbreak of red noses and fancy dress costumes at the Minster School as pupils and staff joined most of-the rest of the country in raising money for Comic Relief. The national event hopes to raise £20m for disadvantaged people in Britain and Africa and local students joined in with enthusiasm in their bid to raise £1700 and double last year’s total.

Maths teacher Alan Franks made an ill-advised offer to shave off half his hair and beard if the school raised £500. No sooner said than History teacher Harrv Harrison had organised each form into collecting £9 and Mr Franks found himself in the barber’s chair at morning assembly and considerably cooler around the ears for the rest of the day (not to mention month!)

Other money raising events included a sponsored fancy dress mixed hockey match, the pushing of a VW truck on a two mile circuit of the town by 15 6th formers and individual contributions of 50p for the privilege of coming in fancy dress or non school uniform.
