Reach Christmas Challenge

This year Reach Learning Disability is again taking part in the Big Give Christmas Challenge to raise funds towards their Holidays & More Project.

The Big Give Christmas Challenge is a national matched funding campaign that enables people to have their donations to charity doubled for one week, from 30th November to 7th December 2021.

The Nottinghamshire charity aims to raise £16,000 towards the costs of planning a programme of supported holidays and fun, diverse leisure activities, and day trips for their clients – people with learning disabilities in Nottinghamshire. IT will also offer family carers a much-needed break, knowing that their loved ones are well cared for. Money raised will help Reach to offer a selection of fun, accessible activities, to enable people with learning disabilities to get out and about following the isolation caused by lockdowns.

Helen Davenport, Reach Southwell Centre Manager said: “Our clients still talk about their 2019 day trip to London and all the many fun times had on our summer and winter seaside holidays before the Covid-19 pandemic. We’ve been all over – from Llandudno to Suffolk. Recently, we’ve enjoyed getting out and about again safely, for example, our trips for the Nottinghamshire Towns by Bus course are bringing local history to life. But with more funds, we could offer more supported trips and enable more people with learning disabilities to make memories that last a lifetime – whether in Nottinghamshire or further afield – hopefully beside the seaside!”

During the Big Give Christmas Challenge, donations made online are matched by a national charity champion and local pledgers. This year Reach’s charity champion is The Reed Foundation. Local pledgers include first4care and private individuals.

To get donations doubled, people need to go to the Big Give Christmas Challenge website from 12pm Tuesday 30th November to 12 noon on Tuesday 7th December and search for Reach Learning Disability, Holidays & More. Alternatively, go to www.reachuk.org for more details. For an e-mail reminder nearer the time, contact Laura on laura.carr@reachuk.org or 01636 819066.

Reach is very grateful to all those who have supported their Southwell accommodation appeal this year. The charity has made good progress with the project, and looks forward to providing an update to supporters early in 2022.
