Race Win for Bleasby

Bleasby Primary School A team took the trophy after winning the final race of the Newark and Sherwood Primary Schools Cross Country Relays League 2013-14.

The team went into the last race of the series knowing that they could not win the League trophy, after missing the first event back in September 2013, but hoping for their fourth race win in a row.

The team made a great start, with Alfie Richardson crossing the line in fourth spot, only one second outside his own Year 4 boy course record. Anna Bolsher took the team into the lead on leg two with a strong finish and Katy Edinborough increased the lead with a determined run.

Barnby Road ran their two strongest participants at this stage, and although Cassie Tavernor tried hard to match her Year 4 Girl course record, and Ben Bates completed another consistently good run, Bleasby went into the final leg in second place, 15 seconds behind the leaders.

A small group of very nervous parents could only watch helplessly as Bleasby’s quickest runner, Sam Newell, took to the chase. He didn’t disappoint, producing the fastest time of the day for a Year 5 boy, just outside his own Year 5 boys’ course record, to finish in first place and earn his school the trophy for the day’s winners.

The event completed a very successful cross country season for Bleasby Primary School, and the squad, pictured above, are looking forward to resuming training sessions in autumn on their brand new school field.
