Ploughing Match returns to Farnsfield

Come and enjoy a great day out in the local countryside at this year’s Southwell Ploughing Match and Show.

Taking place on Saturday 24th September at Baulker Farm, Farnsfield, the
show will open in the main ring with the Ridden Hunter classes followed by the star attraction this year – Jamie Squibb Freestyle motorbike display team.

Other events include the Nottinghamshire Young Farmers lawnmower racing, Private Driving, Mounted Fancy Dress, Sharman’s Tough Farmer competition and the Grand Parade.

Meanwhile the Horticultural and Produce tent will have all the usual jam and baking classes, along with a number of other horticulture and children’s classes.

Entries for the Companion Dog Show are taken on the day from 11am with judging commencing at 12 noon. There are a variety of classes suitable for everyone so please come and join in.

A always a wide variety of trade stands will be present at this year’s show including agricultural suppliers, equestrian outlets and many more with a countryside theme. The craft area includes a number of local businesses selling a variety of home crafted items.

Ploughmen from all over the country will be taking part in this year’s event, along with a number of teams of horses ploughing. The Society is also very pleased to be having a steam ploughing and thrashing demonstration. The Static Vintage Display is again very popular this year with a wide variety of entries culminating in a parade in the main ring.

Horse classes include coloured horse classes, veteran, young handler and working hunter. Unaffiliated show jumping commences at 9.30am with both horse and pony classes.

The Farmer’s Market will be selling locally produced food with lots of delicious snacks to try and free tractor and trailer rides will be provided to allow the general public to see around the whole show.

The event is being held by kind permission of the Hardstaff Family. The President this year is Mr Tim Hardstaff.

Entry tickets are £12.50 in advance, available on the website and £15 on the gate. Children under 14 and parking is free.
