It is almost that time of year again – for the Annual Southwell Ploughing Match and Show! This year the event will be taking place at Thoresby Park on Saturday 28th September, 8.30am to 6pm, and plans are well underway to deliver an amazing day out for all the family.
The site is spectacular in itself, set in historic parkland and overshadowed by the magnificent gothic Thoresby Hall, once home to the Manvers family, but now a popular Warners Hotel.
Against this backdrop, you will find all the usual attractions, competitive commercial ploughing, vintage ploughing and the ever popular horse ploughing, together with a vast range of horse riding and handling classes.
On the show field, you will be able to see a static display of tractors and other vintage farm machinery including steam engines and a threshing demonstration, and in the main ring, at different times throughout the day, there will be displays of Falconry and Scurry Driving, not to mention the much loved Tough Farmer Challenge and a Grand Parade of livestock.
Bringing together all the important aspects of agriculture, this year’s show is set to delight all the family. You can browse around the rural crafts, or shop till you drop at the trade stands, and a tempting array of food and drinks await in the farmers market area.
Taking place at Thoresby Park near Ollerton, NG22 9EP, online advance tickets are now live and available to purchase at a reduced rate of £8 at www.southwellploughingmatch.co.uk. On the day tickets are £10 on the gate, Under 14s and parking are free. Earlybird Adult tickets available online until midnight on 23rd September. VIP tickets and Admission tickets available online until midnight on 27th September.
Weather permitting, we are all set for a great Show – look forward to seeing you there!
