Photography at Patchings Festival

The Patchings Festival is an event that changes every year. Having reached its 21st year, it continues to give visitors an opportunity to see a new and wide range of work by some of the country’s finest artists and makers.

With over 150 exhibitors, one third have been selected to exhibit for the first time. The common theme of course is that they also demonstrate some part of their making or painting. Visitors will not only see exquisite and individual pieces, they can also watch how it is made.

This year the Festival adds a new and very different aspect with a large marquee dedicated to the ‘art of photography’. Supported by Outdoor Photography magazine who will be joining us, the new area will include a series of illustrated presentations by well known photographers. Each providing an insight into their speciality which includes such subjects as Travel Photography, Finding art in landscape photography, Using Adobe Lightroom and Evocative Landscapes. These presentations are free with a Festival entrance ticket. Also in the Photography Marquee will be exhibitions, workshops and trade stands.

Presenting in the 300 seater Festival Marquee in addition to celebrity artists, such as David Bellamy, Jean Haines, Hazel Soan and Ken Howard RA, there are nationally renowned photographers Danny Green, Eddie Ephraums, David Ward and Paul Wakefield. Guest Artists include Shirley Trevena, Pollyanna Pickering and David Curtis. In all a wealth of talent and expertise in fine art and photography to be enjoyed.!

A popular aspect of the Festival is the opportunity to test, try and buy art materials from a wide range of major suppliers from this country and overseas. New this year from overseas are Canson papers from France, Caran d’ Ache from Switzerland and Daniel Smith watercolours from USA. Many show offers and discounts make the Festival an unrivalled opportunity to stock up on materials.
The Festival is joining in the international Yarn Bombing celebrations adding a splash
of colour to the surroundings. Festival Sunday is also Family Art Day with lots of activities and exhibits to interest children and young people.
