Rain did not stop play for the Palace Theatre as the cast of this year’s pantomime Jack and the Beanstalk rolled into town for the first time.
After enjoying the tasty treats on offer at the Palace’s café, Nineteen20, the cast ventured into town and, dodging the showers, explored the Arcade and the Market with Todd Carty (Fleshcreep) enjoying the chance to relive his days on a fruit and veg stall in Eastenders.
Theatre Manager, Carys Coulton-Jones, said “it’s a shame the sun didn’t shine for us on Saturday but it was still great fun getting to show the pantomime cast around the town. They all had a fantastic time and certainly caused a bit of excitement!”
Sunday saw the Palace hosting open auditions for the junior chorus of the pantomime with two teams of eight, and a team of reserves, successfully being selected. The young performers were put through their paces on the Palace stage by the show’s choreographer Graeme Pickering before being narrowed down into the two teams, the Runner Beans and the Baked Beans.
Carys continued, “we love seeing the talent on offer amongst Newark’s budding young performers and we’re thrilled with the teams who will play a massive part in this year’s pantomime”.
Jack and the Beanstalk runs from 7th – 31st December at the Palace. The Early Bird offer, which gives a discount on Premium and Standard performances, runs until 30th September. The company is made up of Todd Carty (Fleshcreep), Kevin McGreevy (Simple Simon), Tim Freeman (Dame Trot), Felicity Skeira (Jack), Kate Eaves (Princess Tamara) and Ann Micklethwaite (Queen of the Fairies).
