Newark Indoor Bowls and Boccia Club have made the finals in six categories of the Newark and Sherwood Annual Sports Awards taking place at Newark Palace Theatre this month.

They are up for Club of the Year; Community Event of the Year, Senior Sports Person, Senior Team Award; Volunteer Award for which they have two finalists and Outstanding Contribution to sport

Club Director and Treasurer, Colin Moore, says: “This is a reflection of the supreme efforts which have taken place to make the club successful both on and off the green Christine Young has done us especially proud winning two EBF national titles, the ladies pairs which she won with Pam Ashley and the mixed triples where she teamed up with Andy Lowe and Andrew Zemontas.

“We have now added another sport to the club and it was rewarding to see so many people taking part in our first ever Boccia tournament. The work which has taken place behind the scenes to bring this about is fantastic and both Boccia and Bowls were prominent in our Celebration Weekend which we submitted for our Community Event. Steve Ayling and John Hope put in hours of work organising this event and it is a tribute to those efforts that they have both made the short list for the Volunteer Award.”
