Mr Neil Harrison of the National Westminster Bank, Southwell, recently organised an essay competition for children which received a good response.
The competition was aimed at making children aware of one of the bank’s new services, the On-Line Account, an ordinary interest-earning deposit account aimed at teenagers. On opening such an account the new client will receive a free calculator and membership of a mail order club for sports equipment.
The prize of the best fashion essay was won by Sarah Hopwood (aged 12) of The MInster School, with runners up Luoise Mitchell and Penny Walker. The other finalists were Hannah Flemming, Jenny Perry, Caroline Esam and Elizabeth Scorer.
The prize for the best essay on the Future of Computers in Industry was won by Richard Bramley of the Minster School with Richard Taylor as the runner up. The other finalists were Sean Gilroy, Alistair Pitcher and Mark Wagstaff. The winners each received an On-Line Account complete with a £5 donation from the bank for their efforts. The runners up and other finalists all received easter eggs with all 53 entrants receiving a Cadbury’s Cream Egg.
