Minster Girls’ Choir celebrate 10 years at Mothering Sunday service

Mothering Sunday will be an extra special occasion this year in the Minster. The service on Sunday 15th March at 3.30pm will be sung by the Girls’ Choir, in celebration of their 10th anniversary.

It will be a normal Choral Evensong, but with a sermon by the acting Dean, Canon Nigel Coates and a reception afterwards. The cathedral’s Assistant Director of Music, Simon Hogan, says: “We hope that former members of the Girls Choir would like to join us and the Lay Clerks for this special celebration, and a number of former directors are attending including the choir’s first director, Simon Bell.”

Southwell Minster Girls’ Choir was formed in 2005 and is directed by Simon Hogan. Members are drawn exclusively from the Minster School, and the girls range in age from eleven to eighteen. Girls can join at any age once at the school, but usually begin at year 7 and progress through to year 13.
