Lowe’s Wong Girls’ shine at football County Finals

BACK in November, Lowe’s Wong Junior Girls’ football team represented the Newark and Sherwood District at the County Finals. Up against the best teams in the County, the girls played fantastically well.

Our first game pitted us against Lady Bay of Rushcliffe who were a formidable team! They banged on the door but our girls were incredibly brave and defended resolutely. Fantastic saves, brave blocks and goal line clearances meant that we shared the points in 0-0 draw with the best team at the Finals.

In our second game, against Heatherley of Mansfield, we were the more dominant team. We took a deserved lead and continued to apply the pressure but couldn’t get an elusive second goal. That proved costly  when with a few minutes to go, Heatherley scored an equalizer from a bobbling ball, taking the score to 1-1.

The final league game saw us take on Leen Mills from Kirkby in Ashfield. It was a feisty affair which saw us take another early lead only to be knocked back again with a couple of minutes to go. Final score – another 1-1 draw.

Lady Bay won their other games comfortably which saw them crowned County Champions but Lowe’s Wong Junior were worthy runners-up! Second best team in the county is a wonderful effort and we are so proud of the girls – well played!
