Home-Start Newark are now recruiting for Remote Family Support Volunteers to provide regular telephone support to local families who are experiencing tough times. Volunteers are needed to offer families befriending and a listening ear, and to help link families to any local services they need. Full free training will be provided via Zoom, so access to a computer or laptop with a webcam and microphone (or a smartphone) is vital. Our next training begins late September.
If you are a local parent/grandparent/foster carer, or you have significant parenting experience, this is a great opportunity to reach out and offer support to local families in a socially distanced way, from your own home. The phone calls usually last for under an hour and can fit around the family’s needs and your other time commitments.
This is a new role for Home-Start. Volunteers usually visit families at home to offer support, but due to the current Covid-19 pandemic we are offering this new, flexible and safe way to support families. As the situation improves locally and nationally, there may be the opportunity to complete further training so that you could also offer home-visiting support.
Due to the nature of the role, 2 character references will be required and a DBS check at enhanced level will be undertaken for all applicants. We are looking to increase the diversity of our team of volunteers to ensure we reflect the community we are working within. We would particularly welcome applications from individuals from Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic communities, and from men.
