Local Taekwondo students become World Champions

LAST month local club, Endeavor Taekwondo, brought home a huge haul of twenty medals, including a number of Golds, from the ITF Taekwondo Open World Championships in Scotland.

The students, including eight children aged between 8 and 17, were taught by Sarah Harney, a third-degree black belt and European and World Medallist who runs Endeavour Taekwondo.

After travelling to the World Championships Sarah reflects on the achievement: “I started this club during the pandemic offering free online lessons. I’m incredibly proud of all the hard work the children have all put in. I encourage everyone, children and adults to come and give it a go!”

Sarah herself competed in the elite black belt category, winning a silver medal for patterns and a bronze medal for sparring, while her children Erin (9) and William (16) also won bronze medals.

The club’s medal haul continued: Sammy Coulton-Jones (9) from North Muskham, won a World Championship gold and two bronze medals.

Vanessa and David Schmidt and their children Evelyn (11) and Thomas(8) from Southwell went to the championships as a family, collectively bringing home two gold, two silver and a bronze medal, with Vanessa now a World Champion in sparring and special techniques.

Jack Martin (8) from North Muskham took World Championship Gold for special techniques plus silver for sparring and bronze in the team patterns and his brother Thomas (10) battled through several intense rounds to win silver for sparring and bronze for team patterns while his sister Lucy (17) won bronze for sparring!
