Lights, Camera, Encore! for Nottingham Youth Orchestra

NOTTINGHAM Youth Orchestra, the local independent charity organisation for musical youngsters aged 8-18, commenced its 40th Anniversary with a dazzling film music springtime concert at Nottingham’s Albert Hall.

The ‘Lights, Camera, Encore!’ performance, with light show and dressing up by excited NYO members, was memorable because the symphony orchestras performed together and NYJO, the talented Nottingham Youth Jazz Orchestra, provided cinematic jazz hits in the interval. The concert culminated in a Lion King medley to rapturous applause from the sellout audience. The many post-concert comments included: “It’s inspiring to see the different orchestras connect and how younger players can look ahead to their future musical journeys.”

Other events in NYO’s milestone year: inspirational workshops for percussion and woodwind players, a trip to The Royal Concert Hall for Intermediate Orchestra, a Walesby Forest music making and activity day for Training Orchestra, whilst NYJO performed at a retirement home and have a recording session booked at the University of Nottingham.

This academic year concludes with a dance themed ‘Music In Motion’ concert with NYJO centre stage at The Albert Hall on 6th July, and senior Nottingham Youth Orchestra’s concert on 2nd August at St Mary’s in the Lace Market, marking their return from the prestigious Provençal Festival of Youth Orchestras featuring orchestras from Europe, Canada and the USA.
