The last 5 Guides in 1st Southwell Guide Company were awarded their Queen’s Guide awards on May 11th. They are the last because the Queen’s Guide has ceased to exist as an award for Guides and in future only be open to Guiders. The girls are Fiona Lee, Katie Short, Tina Birchmore, Julie Smith and Lorraine Ellner.
Fiona Lee was presented with her award and certificate by her grandmother Mrs C Clark, who has been associated with the Guides for over 40 years. Mrs Clark was a guide Captain and received her long service award for services to Guiding/. She is now retired.
Katie Short was presented with her awards by Mr Charlie Rouse, new Chairman of Southwell Parish Council, a family friend for many years and a regular helper at the annual Guide camps organised by his wife.
Tina Birchmore and Julie Smith received their awrads from Mrs Coles, Assistant Guider for 7 years and Lorraine Ellner was presented with her awards by Mrs Sylvia Rouse Unit Guider of the Company for the past 10 years and for the duration of Lorraine’s experience of Guiding.
1st Southwell Co. held a meeting with parents recently when future plans for the Guides were discussed. A cake sale at the end of the evening raised £22 which will be given to the Old Vicarage Home for the elderley for the resident’s Comfort Fund.
