Largest London Plane Tree Discovered

Kelham Hall & Country Park has just been announced as home to the largest and tallest London Plane tree (Platanus Hispanica) recorded in the entire of Nottinghamshire.

Officials from the national Tree Register recently visited to measure and confirm this fine example of its species and it has now been awarded with County Champion status at 29 metres tall with a 7.12m girth. The Tree Register were unable to confirm its age but believed it to be of mid to late 18th century planting.

In addition to the new County Champion, several other large ornamental Spindle trees within the grounds are currently being confirmed for the same high status.

Kelham Hall & Country Park has 44 acres of parkland, boasting a rich variety of natural habitats for wildlife, a peaceful woodland trail and beautiful gardens. There are also 22 fishing pegs, tennis courts and a campsite for up to 200. The grounds and hall are open daily with no admission or parking fees. Dogs are welcome on short leads.
