Having already finished top of the Notts. Women’s Hockey Premier League, Southwell Brincliffe United Ladies Hockey Club 1st team crowned off a fantastic season when they beat rivals, Manning, in the Notts Hockey League Cup Final at Highfields Hockey Centre on Saturday 19th March.
In a very hard fought, tense game the score was 0-0 after full time and remained that way even after sudden death extra time. The resulting penalty flick shoot out saw SBU win 3-2, much to the delight of all players and the many supporters that had come to watch.
SBU currently run three ladies teams competing in the Nottinghamshire leagues – Premier, Div 1 and Div 2, playing regularly every Saturday during the winter season.
This year saw the Club go from strength to strength with many of their younger players turning out regularly to play league Hockey for the 2nd and 3rd XI. SBU 2 finishing 6th in Div.1 and SBU 3, who gained promotion last year, finishing 5th in Div.2.
The club has an open door policy and welcomes players of all abilities to their training sessions on Wednesdays, 6:30 – 8pm on the Minster School all weather pitch, from September through to April.
The Club also has a strong Junior Section which continues to thrive and has enjoyed success playing Under 11 matches in the Notts and Derbyshire League. SBU are hoping to enter an Under 13 team next season.
Their junior training is also on Wednesdays, 5:30 -6:30pm for girls and boys of all ages and abilities and acts as feeder to our senior squads.
