Knitted Garden Blooms for Charity Open Garden Event

The enchanting knitted garden will return to the Framework Knitters Museum this summer, and is set to be bigger, better and even more unusual than before. Launching as part of the new Ruddington Charity Open Gardens event on 25 and 26 June, the knitted garden will then be available to explore all summer.

Paul Baker, Museum Manager, explained that “Our ‘secret’ knitted garden can be found in the museum’s picturesque courtyard garden, where woollen flowers and woollen bugs intersperse with the natural flora and fauna.” He added, “This year there is also going to be a knitted shed and a knitted deck chair to enhance the visual experience.”

Members of the public are invited to create knitted or crocheted flowers and insects, which they can donate to the museum to be included in the unique exhibition. They can be posted to the museum, or dropped in to the reception during the museum’s opening hours.

The Framework Knitters Museum’s knitted garden will be one of over ten gardens open to the public during the Ruddington Charity Open Gardens event. The others include private gardens of residential dwellings, the Harewood Gardens allotments and the gardens at St. Peter’s School, as well as entertainment and refreshments at the Ruddington Methodist Church and church hall.

Refreshments, various stalls and entertainment will be available in some of the gardens; including music, face painting, and a children’s treasure hunt. In addition, the new art gallery at the Framework Knitters Museum, the Chapel Gallery, will be turned into a tea room during the event. A selection of refreshments and cakes will be for sale, as well as a selection of homemade savoury snack items provided by the museum’s partners, The Frame Breakers public house.

Access to the knitted garden is included in the admission price for the museum, and a 50% discount is available to those who have an Open Garden booklet during the event.
