Pub Walk for Parkinsons 2019

The 2019 Pub Walk for Parkinson’s will take place on Saturday 2nd March. Meeting & Registration at Farnsfield Cricket Club at 10:30 am. The total raised so far from this annual event is now well over £20,000 and the hope is that this year’s walk will be the biggest and best yet with a record number of walkers and a big total raised. The walk is approximately 8 miles long, meandering from Farnsfield to Southwell on a variety of terrains, so stout shoes/boots are recommended. Unfortunately, the route is not suitable for wheel chairs and is testing for those with mobility issues. The entry fee remains at £15 which includes tea or coffee and a bacon cob before the start. Some food is also provided by The Hearty Goodfellow at the end. At least £10 from each entry goes directly to Parkinson’s UK, the research and support charity. Official entry forms and Sponsorship forms are available from Bob Ratcliffe. If you are unable to make the walk, but would like to donate, please visit our just giving page www.justgiving.com/fundraising/2019-pub-walk-for-parkinsons If you would like more information about the walk, or to confirm your entry and arrange for Sponsorship forms please contact: Bob Ratcliffe on 07887 707496 or bobratcliffe@btinternet.com

Thunder and Rain

As a taster to the main event (6th to 9th June), The Gate to Southwell Festival is promoting its first concert in the new Locomotion Bar at the Final Whistle in Southwell on Tuesday 12th March. Thunder and Rain is a Colorado-based five-piece who have established a strong footing. Though their roots are firmly in traditional bluegrass and folk they fuse melodic elements of rock and pop with acoustic instrumentation, to create a distinctive contemporary sound of their own. The release of their superb 2017 “Start Believing” album stimulated the UK media into paying serious attention. Reviews were fittingly flattering and they got a load of radio exposure too. FolkRadioUK compared them with “the early days of 10,000 Maniacs” whilst RnR magazine declared “There’s something special happening here”. The band has toured Ireland before but this is their first visit to the UK mainland. Support comes from 19 year old Nottingham based singer songwriter Louis Croft whose influences include Donovan and Jake Bugg. Tickets £11 (+ booking fee) in advance from www.gtsf.uk/thunderandrain or £13 on the door. Doors 7.00pm. For further information phone 01636 816678 or visit the website.

Come & Sing

The Cranmer Company of Singers and Musical Director Deborah Davies are hosting another charity Come & Sing. Mozart 'Requiem' on Good Friday 19th April at Bottesford Parish Church. This popular event, where time and talents are freely given, raised a record £1,908 in 2017 then £1,400 in 2018, so bring your voice, bring a friend, have a good time and see how much we can raise in 2019. The Guardian describes it as uniquely breathtaking music that shows us pain, lament and fleeting serenity. All who sing it feel the intensity of the score and few can help wondering about the chilling mystery around its composition. The stories fuelled the famous play and film Amadeus. Rehearsal starts 4.30pm (please arrive earlier), charity performance at 7.30pm. Local Soloists will be: Rachel Cropley, Sarah Morris, Colin Reed and Geoff Harbach, with Organist Paul Hayward and Conductor Deborah Davies. All welcome - £6/8/10 to sing, tiered as we ask you to select the amount you wish to give. Donations on door from audience. Singers please book your place by contacting Anny:  annyjones@me.com or 07415 512729. Music provided if required. Singers – if you wish, bring a picnic supper to have between rehearsal and performance. Sober dress please: Men in Suit and tie, Ladies sober Sunday best. Money raised will go to the charity – Tearfund Yemen Crisis Appeal. Come and Sing, or Come & Listen, you will be made very welcome.
