SOUTHWELL Town Crier Henry Howard was presented with a new bicycle by John Matthews, Community Service Committee chairman, Southwell & District Lions in early August, to replace his ageing machine, and in recognition of Henry’s support in Lions fund raising events.
The final figure raised for the W.A.L.K. charity by the Donkey Derby in June was a little over £1200.
This successful event is planned to be repeated next year when it is to be hoped that the weather will be as good and the attendance even better than this year.
At the summer shows in Southwell and Farnsfield the Lions Teddy Bear stall was well supported raising a little under £500 for charities, our thanks to everyone who gave so generously.
On September 6th the first of the Autumn fund raising events was a Horse pace Night held at Oxton Village hall where the “going” was very good, and over a hundred punters enjoyed the racing, both on the flat and over the sticks! Future events include the Lions Bonfire night which once again is to be held at the Waggon and Horses, Bleasby on Sat. 1st November, 7 pm.
You are cordially invited to support us on this evening and help the event to go like a rocket! We have changed our meeting place from the Bramley Apple to the Saracens Head, (meetings on the 2nd and 4th Tuesdays each month) and would like to take this opportunity of thanking Tony & Barbara for their support during the five formative years of the Club.
