Help Andrew in his battle against brain cancer

ANDREW Hirst, a Newark resident and secondary school teacher, faces a terminal diagnosis of glioblastoma, a rare and aggressive form of brain cancer. At just 35 years old, Andrew has begun a fight for his life, and with the help of his wife, Rachael, and their three children, he is raising funds to access vital, life-extending treatments.

In December 2024, Andrew began 30 sessions of radiotherapy and chemotherapy at Nottingham City Hospital, but his doctors have told him that these treatments are not a cure. Glioblastomas are relentless, with only 25% of patients surviving beyond a year. Undeterred, Andrew has sought out cutting-edge treatments not available on the NHS, including hyperthermy and immunotherapy. These approaches show promise in targeting brain cancer and could offer Andrew more precious time with his family.

To access these treatments, Andrew needs to raise £250,000. With an outpouring of local support, £70,000 has already been raised in just nine days. As part of the fundraising efforts, a Mega Raffle will be held at Coddington Village Hall on Saturday 29th March 2025, and local businesses are encouraged to donate raffle prizes. Please email newarkcastlekeepers@gmail.com if you are able to support this raffle. Additionally, a Netball Tournament will take place in Newark on Sunday 23rd March 2025, with all proceeds supporting Andrew’s treatment fund.
