THE Reindeer Gentle men’s Golf Society was founded by a group of regulars to The Reindeer Inn, who were joined by the then landlord, Geoff Muldoon.
40 members were signed up in early 2000 by Ged Law and David Steel. In its 25 years the society played many courses including Norwood Park, and enjoyed regular trips to Skegness and the famous North Shore Hotel.
The society received formal recognition as a charity and has over the years raised thousands of pounds for good causes. Each year the captain nominates a charity of his choice, with donations regularly reaching over £1,000 a year.
The society encourages golf for all abilities and hosts a range of a events each month from March to December.
The captain’s trophy board sits in pride of place above the bar at the Reindeer, with the very first winner being Tommy Craig, who is sadly no longer with us. Over the society’s 25 years several members have also passed, but their memory is continued by the several trophies played in memory of them.
The society still boasts two current members from the original group 25 years ago, Tim Brooks and Tony Hudson. The group still has over 40 members the youngest being 25 years old and the eldest 91 years young.
Current captain Jem Berridge pictured left with Rama Nanda, landlord of the Reindeer said: “It’s an honour to be the captain as we are celebrating such a milestone. Golf brings us together as great friends and gives us the opportunity to raise lots for charity.”
